There is a new beauty trend in 2016 and the Golden Globes looks are proving us right. We’ve all seen the crazy effects of contouring, tontouring, highlighting and stenciling. Within about an hour you can look like Kim Kardashian, high cheekbones, defined nose and a sculpted jawline. The downside is that sometimes you can look like you have caked on the makeup which only generally works in front of a camera.
Just as we have all mastered the art of contouring warpaint, the runways (and Golden Globes 2016) are bringing back the au naturel dewy makeup look. On the plus side, it’s easier, faster and you can save alot on the amount of makeup you’re using on application.
Don’t get us wrong, it’s still about the highlighting and contouring but not so heavy. You don’t need 50 shades of foundation to achieve the look. Simply a tinted moisturiser or dewy foundation, bronzer and highlighter. Here are my fave beauty products that I have used religiously (and paid for myself). Scroll down to see why I love them and tips on how to use them.

Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturiser. This is perfect for a light day coverage and has a slight illumination to it that helps hide imperfections and creates an even colour. It’s so easy to apply, I generally add the Laura Mercier Primer first then apply the tinted moisturiser all over with a makeup brush.
TIP: Opt for a slightly darker shade in summer to give your skin a sun kissed look. Trust me, i’m practically see through i’m so white but the darker shade can be blended as it is a light texture.
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. I generally apply this very lightly on top of the tinted moisturiser base at night time or for events when I need a little more coverage. It has such a beautiful texture and is again luminous so your skin doesn’t look dull or cakey. Think dewy. Well worth the investment if you want a flawless look that stays on throughout the night.
TIP: A small amount goes a long way, use a makeup brush and one pump will cover your whole face. Again I go a shade darker and I am careful to blend down my neck. I also love the Alison Jade Mineral Powder Foundation for a soft powder finish that isn’t dry.
Alison Jade Baked Finishing Powder in Glow. This is my go to bronzer because it doesn’t look heavy and you can build it up if you want a more defined look at night. This is all you need to contour the natural way, the key is to shade all of the parts of the face that you want shadowed, such as beneath the cheekbone, down the side of the nose (be careful to blend this), on the temple either side of the face and along the jawline.
TIP: Build and blend your bronzer. Once you have contoured be sure to dust some bronzer all over your face so that you aren’t left with obvious streaks under your cheekbone.
Chanel Luminous Eyeshadow in Emerville. This is a MUST HAVE. I use it as an eyeshadow and highlighter. It is so natural and creates a beautiful, natural luminous effect on the cheekbone. I use this on my cheekbone, just above the outer corners of my brow, on my eyelid and on my cupids bow.
Alison Jade Illuminating Lotion. This is an amazing illuminator that you can use alone as above or mix with your foundation to give your whole face a natural glow.
FINAL TIPS: Always use a primer for longer lasting night makeup and at the end of the night be sure to cleanse your face twice. You know when you wash your face and dry it on your towel, leaving brown bronzer marks? This means you need to cleanse again to ensure you don’t wake up with a pimple. I prefer to wear very little makeup during the week to give my skin a break from the slightly heavier makeup I apply on the weekend. The key to natural makeup is healthy skin so drink plenty of water and eat well.
