Margot Robbie is a babe and this shoot for Vogue Australia December 2017 is just another reason why I have the biggest girl crush on her.
Can you believe it has been 10 years since she was on Neighbours? Right before she cemented herself in Hollywood with her leading role in the Wolf of Wall Street in 2013. A mere 4 years later she is one of the most in demand actresses and making epic movies. I’m pretty sure the majority of the population dressed up as Harley Quinn for halloween two years running.
I love that she’s not afraid to play the ‘ugly’ roles. The two latest films Mary Queen of Scots and I, Tonya have proved she’s more than just a pretty face. Margot even co produced I, Tonya, switching from business to character in a matter of moments.
What’s most interesting is her take on feminism. In the Vogue interview for the covershot Margot was asked if she considered herself a feminist.
“I do, I do. But a couple of years ago I was almost scared to say I was because it had so many negative connotations, like: ‘If you’re a feminist, you hate men.’ Margot believes her recent insight came about by listening to TED talks about what they are labelling as the “new wave feminism.” The belief that feminists can be male or female.
“My favourite definition of a feminist is ‘any person who believes in gender equality in a social, emotional, financial respect’, and that means Tom’s a feminist, I’m a feminist.”
I love how she has defined feminism because it has held such negative connotations in the past. I would say that is why some women try to avoid the question. And, I really think that if more people educated themselves and understood the true meaning of what a feminist really is, there would be greater support for the cause. From both women and men alike.
