The most important part of the ‘nude’ makeup look is your foundation and amping up your skins natural glow. Here is a step by step on applying the perfect base for a barely there all natural look.
1. Cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise your skin
We tend to wear very little makeup in the summer which is all the more reason to look after your skin. Cleanse every morning and night ladies (and gents too!). Exfoliating will eliminate any dead skin that may catch your foundation. But don’t go overboard! If you are using a granular exfoliant, very GENTLY 1-2 times a week is best and only on the T zone. Sodashi is the bomb.
2. Apply a Primer Primer’s are a god send for slippy foundation. To ensure half of your foundation doesn’t rub off when you kiss your boyfriend, girlfriend, on the cheek, prime first. Primer will also maintain a smooth flawless look and prevent your foundation from grabbing. Try Alison Jade Retexturecreme With Liposomes, $55
3. Use a illuminating Tinted Moisturiser
Sometimes your need a little shimmer to hide blemishes and add to your natural glow. Warning, this does not mean you want to look like Kylie Minogue’s gold hot pants. Subtlety is key. Use a foundation brush or gently gently pitter patter with your fingers, apply to the entire face. Try Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer, $42
4. Foundation is NOT a mask
Believe it or not you do not need to apply your foundation to your entire face. Try mixing some foundation with your tinted moisturiser for a higher coverage and apply to the nose, cheeks and forehead. This will give you a more natural un-mask like look. Blending is key and is easiest with a foundation brush. If you can still see where your foundation has been applied then it is too dark for your skin dumb dumb. Try Lancome Photogenic Lumessence, $42
5. Bronze and Blush
Apply some translucent powder to the cheeks (only the cheek people or you will lose the dewy glow we have perfected thus far). This will prevent your blush from grabbing. Apply the blush to the apple of your cheeks little by little, you only need a hint of colour. Try By Terry Terrybly Blush in Erotic Pink, $115
For a final sunkissed look, apply your bronzer in the shape of a 3 to your forehead, cheek and jawline. Starting under the cheekbone (no further in than the outer corner of your eye), lightly brush out toward your ear. Then move to your hairline and blend the bronzer on the outer edges of your face. Finish by sweeping the brush under your jawline to blend your foundation. Try Laura Geller Bronze and Brighten, $35
Ta Dah! Now don’t go and ruin it all with clumpy black mascara and eyeliner. Less is more, so ditch both and opt for a nude/light brown eye shadow. For this seasons favoured glossy look try a cream eye shadow.
